A Day In The Life Of A Chief AI Officer—Four Simulations You Can Play Now
What a Workshop Can't Teach You About the Hottest Seat in the Enterprise
The top AI leader in a company has a 12-18-month half-life (or less). Whether it’s a Chief AI Officer or Head of AI, the highly dynamic, uncertain, and political nature of working across departments feels like a mechanical bull. The question is: how long can you hold on?
While Anthropic’s Fable 5 model was included in Claude subscriptions, I explored ways to close this gap. I have given a lot of AI workshops and courses for leaders this year, but hearing about a topic and experiencing it first-hand are vastly different. Incorporating interactive elements improves knowledge retention. Could Fable help me make the life of a Chief AI Officer tangible through an interactive simulation?
One afternoon, I sat down and started working with Fable 5. The result: four simulation games, delivered as standalone HTML files that run in a browser. Assume the AI leadership role, play the game with zero risk, and experience real questions that leaders in-role receive every day. In this article, I’ll share the simulations with you as well as the steps on how you can build your own. So, follow along or take it for a spin.
You Can't Read Your Way Into the Role
It's 9 a.m. The board wants your AI strategy in three slides. Legal just flagged a shadow-AI tool that half the sales team is already using. Your best champion is threatening to quit. This is a Tuesday for a Chief AI Officer, and there's no safe place to practice it. So I built one. Each of the four games below drops you into these decisions, in your browser, with nothing real on the line.
In Agent of Intelligence, you assume the role of a new Chief AI Officer who’s tasked with bringing AI into the organization. Set a strategy, prioritize AI initiatives, build communities of champions, and present your plan to the board. The game reflects the nine dimensions of successful AI initiatives of the AI Leadership Handbook.
Agent of Change puts you in the leadership role again. This time, you guide your team to use AI without creating workslop and draft debt. If your customer catches slop in your work, you are “game over.” Based on The HUMAN Agentic AI Edge, the player needs to balance AI adoption, risk, trust, quality, and shadow AI to succeed.



Finally, Agent of Commerce simulates agentic commerce processes, from discovery to purchase, from the PoV of B2B and B2C customers and vendors. Do your customers even find your product? Which ones does their AI agent recommend? Get a foundational understanding of how to get your business on the map when agents recommend and transact on behalf of their users.
How to build your own business simulation:
In Claude, use the most capable model (like Fable 5) to create the literal game plan (concept, design, audience, source content, …), and save it in a markdown file. If you have any reference material such as books, blogs, or transcripts, add them to the prompt:
Build a browser simulation game in 90s pixel style, including 8-bit music. It should teach the concepts of [insert your topic or resource] to [target audience]. The main character is a leader who needs to empower and encourage their users to use AI without creating slop. Help me explore the idea further before writing the code.
Ask Claude (on Opus 4.8) to create a visual design system that you can paste into an image generator to create images for key scenes.
Create a visual design system based on this image. Describe different scenes for game design that illustrate the images for the gameplay.
Create a reference image of the game plate (e.g., in ChatGPT Free) using the output from the previous step:
Create an image for the gameplay scene that could anchor a visual design system for **AGENT OF CHANGE** — the illustration establishes tone, mechanics clarity, and the visual metaphor for the core concepts.
**Setting:** Wide isometric view of a small 5-person team's workspace.
**Visual elements:**
- **Desks (4):** arranged in a loose cluster center-stage. Teal-glowing screens on two (quality work), brown-tinged monitors on two (slop drafts, glitchy visual corruption). One desk is clean, waiting for a decision.

[…]Build the visual design system in Claude Design (colors, fonts, dialogs, …) by pasting the design system specification from Step #2 into Claude Design’s prompt window and using the generated images as reference files. Let the Claude Design create the design system. Then, export the design system into an HTML file.
Switch to chatting with Claude (on Opus 4.8). Attach the game image, design system, and markdown file. Ask Claude to write the code for a standalone HTML file. Once it’s done, test the game before calling it finished.
Open the HTML file in Claude to test it. Ask Claude to make any tweaks you would like to see.
Finally, open the game in your browser to play, or publish the HTML file on your webpage.
Divide work into research (frontier model like Favle) and implementation (cheaper models like Opus or Sonnet) to save cost or maximize your quota. Keep in mind: as always, reaching an 80% version with AI is faster than getting it to >95% through subsequent iterations.

You Can Turn Your Syllabus Into a Simulation in 30 Minutes or Less
I teach an undergraduate course on Production & Operations Management. From the basics of forecasting to sales & operations planning, materials requirement planning, quality and inventory management, to logistics, the course covers a range of foundational supply chain topics. Each module blends theory and practice, such as Excel-based assignments and calculations. But explaining why companies forecast and showing the impact of a good (and a bad) forecast is different. So, I took my course syllabus and lecture notes and uploaded them to Claude.
Using Fable 5, I asked Claude to process and analyze the documents and create the specification for a simulation game in the style of an early-2000s game. To ensure portability, I asked it to create a standalone HTML file again and save the game progress in the player’s local browser cache. An import/ export feature saves the player’s progress as a text file, just in case. ChatGPT created the game image, including progress placeholders at the top, based on the module names and order.
Within a few minutes, Claude built the polished result: an interactive, standalone browser-based game. Each week, a new module unlocks and presents a realistic scenario that I can use in class as an instructor, while asking students to calculate KPIs such as profit margin, asset turnover, and return on assets.
Everything ties back to the course content and learning objectives, and I’m planning to pilot it in class this fall. It took less than half an hour to turn slides and spreadsheets into an interactive experience.
Summary
AI is making it easier to put content in different formats and to turn passive learning into active, experiential learning. Giving your simulation a slightly older look and feel can help manage expectations that they are not perfect or infallible. Learners in professional settings who grew up playing video games in the 80s and 90s will see a familiar user experience and throwbacks.
Fable even creates simple first-person or car racing games in 3D that render well in a modern browser. The sky is the limit, or rather, your token budget is.
